Process a payment

Accept card payments in semi-integrated mode from your SmartPOS terminal

This is the cashier’s main flow. From the Home screen, the cashier enters the amount, the customer chooses how to pay, and the terminal handles the full authorization autonomously — no additional action required from the merchant’s system.

Before you start

Make sure the terminal is on, connected to the network, and that the cashier has logged in with their personal user account. If no users have been created yet, see Terminal settings.

Step 1 — Enter the amount

From the Home tab, the terminal displays the numeric keypad with the Sale heading. Enter the transaction amount and tap the confirmation button (blue check icon).

Step 2 — Installment selection

The app displays the Installment Options screen. The customer or cashier chooses between:

OptionDescription
Pay in FullCharges the total amount in a single transaction. Selected by default.
X installments — No interestSplits the amount into equal installments with no additional charge. The app shows the value of each installment (e.g. 3 installments of $333).

pago en cuotas

Tap Confirm to continue.

Step 3 — Card presentation

The terminal displays the Ready when you are screen with the confirmed amount and three entry methods. The customer presents their card however they prefer:

MethodDescription
Tap (NFC)The customer taps their card or device on the NFC reader. Fastest method.
Insert (Chip)The customer inserts the card chip-first into the slot at the bottom of the terminal.
Swipe (Magnetic stripe)The customer swipes the card through the magnetic stripe reader. Available as a fallback.

ready-when-you-are

The cashier can cancel the transaction at any time from this screen by tapping Cancel Sale.

Step 4 — Tip

The terminal presents the customer with the Add a Tip? screen. The customer chooses from the pre-configured options (percentage or fixed amount), selects Custom to enter a free value, or taps No Tip.

Step 5 — Digital signature

The terminal prompts the customer to sign directly on the touchscreen. The customer signs with their finger or a stylus and taps Confirm. To start over, they can tap Clear to erase the signature and sign again.

Step 6 — Processing

While the terminal communicates with the card network, a waiting screen appears with the animated Kushki mascot and the amount being processed. This step typically takes between 2 and 5 seconds on a good connection.

Step 7 — Result

Approved

If authorization is successful, the app displays the Approved screen with the message “$X charged successfully” and automatically generates the receipt.

From this screen the cashier has three options for the receipt:

ActionDescription
EMAILSends the receipt by email to the customer or the merchant’s records.
PAYLOVESends the receipt to the customer’s loyalty program (available depending on merchant configuration).
SKIPCloses the flow without a digital receipt. The transaction remains recorded in the Sales List.

The Print button at the bottom prints a physical receipt on the terminal’s built-in printer.

Declined

If authorization fails, the terminal displays the Declined screen with the reason, when provided by the processor. The transaction is recorded in the Sales List with a “Declined” status and no Ticket # assigned.

What to do when a transaction is declined:

  • Check that the card has sufficient funds and is not blocked.
  • Try a different entry method — if NFC failed, try chip.
  • If the issue persists, ask the customer for an alternative card.
